How To Find The Gorge Restaurant - The Gorge Restaurant

Our restaurant is located within the picturesque Cataract Gorge Cliff Grounds, about a 15 – 30 minute walk from Launceston’s CBD. If you’re driving, there are two options for parking. Paid parking is available at the end of Basin Road in West Launceston. This larger car park will situate you near the main entrance to the Gorge’s First Basin, and from here, you can enjoy a scenic walk (or during the day, a ride on the world’s longest single span chairlift) across the First Basin before reaching the restaurant.

A smaller car park is located near the Cliff Grounds. This car park provides the closest access to the Gorge Restaurant with just a short walk down the stairs. To find this car park, head over Kings Bridge and follow Gorge Road until you came to the Gorge Cliff Ground entrance (74 Gorge Road).

Arriving After Dark?

The car park off Basin Road closes in the evening so if you are dining with us late, we suggest parking nearer to the Gorge Restaurant in the free parking area available near the Cliff Grounds in Trevallyn.

As we are situated in the middle of the Victorian gardens, from the car park follow the Maple Steps down to reach the restaurant. This walk only takes 5 minutes, but can be slippery during the winter months so please be careful.

If you are utilising paid transport (or wearing heels) we recommend you ask your driver to head through the yellow ‘authorised access gates’ visible to the left of the Maple Steps. This will take you closer to the restaurant where our turning bay is located, your driver can then make use of the turning bay for drop off/pick up.

Disability Access

The Gorge Restaurant offers disability and wheelchair access in a close proximity drop-off location. To reach this drop-off spot, head through the yellow ‘authorised access gates’, left of the Maple Steps until you reach the turning bay, just before the restaurant. The turning bay is located between two very old, large trees and there are no steps between the turning bay and the restaurant, enabling easy access.

After dropping off/picking up your guest please park your car in the top designated car park, so that the drop-off space is free for other guests to use. Once you have finished your stay at the restaurant, you are more than welcome to bring your car back down to the turning bay to pick up any guests.
